New Mood Theme
Well, I finally changed my mood theme.  The little guy throwing up grossed me out, so I started thinking about changing my mood theme, and I wanted one of those cool animated ones.  I got the link for this from fandom-bitches, and went through all sorts of complicated uploading and html stuff to get it to work.  I just spent the last few minutes looking over some of my previous journal entries to enjoy my new mood theme, and I notices that I often feel excited, accomplished, or awake.  Interesting.  Well, it makes sense that I would be excited a lot -- I mean, this IS my fandom journal, so I'm usually posting about Lost or BSG or something.  Oooh, I wonder if there's any animated Lost mood themes............  I don't know, I still think a Star Trek mood theme would be perfect.

The Closing of Star Trek: the Experience
Okay , I suppose it's past time that I addressed this -- a week ago, I found out that Star Trek: the Experience is closing in September.  Why does this bother me so much?

BSG Fic Recs
Alright, so since I've been completely obsessed with Battlestar Galactica lately, I've obviously been reading quite a bit of fanfiction.

Okay, so here's the way this is going to work, because a lot of these stories are posted in numerous places by people who have more than one name.  I prefer to link to fanfiction.net, because it's easier for me.  My second choice is Survival Instinct, for the same reason.  So if the story is available there I will link to it there, using the author's name at that site.  But a lot of them (probably most of them) can be found on LJ too.  A lot of the ones on my list can be found at [info]fandom_bitches, which is run by [info]gidget_zb, [info]alias424, and [info]babylon_whore.

So, here are some of my favorites SO FAR.

Get Smart and Col. Tigh on Monk -- Miscellaneous Musings
I realized that I never posted about Get Smart.  (I got sidetracked by the News)  Last weekend, I went to see the Get Smart movie, and I really enjoyed it.  While Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway will never really BE Max and 99 for me, they did an okay job.  And, I don't know, seeing Max walk down the corridor, through all those doors, set to the theme music, gave me quite a thrill, since I'm such a geek, and have such a long history with Get Smart.  So, just that alone was worth the ticket price.  And while the movie was kind of dumb, it made laugh.  A lot.  So that's a good thing.

It kind of sucks -- I was on such a fandom high from seeing that movie, and then I got home and went online and read The News.  Yeah, I HATE the Hilton now.  I'll probably have a whole post about that eventually, but I don't want to talk about it now.

So, I just found out that Michael Hogan (Colonel Tigh from BSG) was in the first episode of Monk.  So I need to go back and rewatch that episode again to see him.  And of course the Premiere episode of Monk is awesome in and of itself.  The funeral scene cracks me up every time.

I keep trying to post my Star Trek: the Tour pictures, but every time I try to put the pics under an LJ cut, the whole thing freezes up on me.  Arggh.

BSG -- all caught up!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'M ALL CAUGHT UP ON BSG!!!!!!

Okay, I need to know what happens NOW!!

What do they do now that they've gotten to Earth and it sucks?

Who is Bill crying over in the promo?

Who is the FINAL CYLON?

When does Season 4.5 start?

*flail*

And can I just say how much Adama, Roslin, Baltar and Tigh rocked in those last two episodes?  (I include Baltar there because he made me laugh -- "shhhh, stop jumping the ship, okay?")

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO FOR THE NEXT HOWEVER MANY MONTHS?????????

Book Meme
Okay, so in an attempt to not think about The News (see last post), I finally did the book meme that's been going around my flist.

I'm a little embarrassed at how many of these I HAVEN'T read, but in my defense, I have spent most of my life with my nose in a book -- it's just I read more of the fun kind.  LOTS of Star Trek books, for instance.  :)

Fannish Ramblings

So, it turns out I didn't really need to re-read the Mirror Universe books for Fearful Symmetry.  Oh well.

Fearful Symmetry was good, but.....too short.  You know, considering the wait.  And the fact that it's mostly gap-filling, and a To Be Continued, and who knows when the next one is coming out.  *sigh*  I think I'll read the Terok Nor trilogy next.

And I'm all caught up on my missing episodes of Battlestar Galactica.  I have the last four episodes of Season Four on my DVR, so I can watch those at my leisure.  I sped through the first six episodes last night and this morning, and I was thrilled to finally get to see them.  But they were a bit depressing, with dying!Laura and crazy!Tyrol.  And not enough Adama, especially episodes 5 and 6.  I don't think he was in episode 5 at all.

I'm looking forward to the last 4 episodes though.  I hear they're awesomely awesome.

I need some lunch.

BSG -- SEASON FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess what I'm doing RIGHT NOW -- I'm watching SEASON FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*giggles insanely*

*bounces and explodes*

Okay, so I've gotten through the first four episodes.  Two more, and I'll be all set.  I have the last four waiting for me on my DVR.

So, I just watched four episodes in a row.  I don't want to burn out, so I think I'll save the next two eps for tomorrow.

Star Trek books
I FINALLY  finished re-reading the Mirror Universe books, and I posted my summaries so I won't have to read them AGAIN in a year or so.

Now I can read Fearful Symmetry, which is the next book in the DS9 saga, which I have been waiting for for the last two years.

I might take a bit of a break from Star Trek for the rest of the day and read some of the Battlestar Galactica Companions.

New DS9 book
YAY!!!  I got my new DS9 book, the one I've been waiting TWO YEARS for.  Seriously, we should not have to wait that long between installments.

Now, I just have to finish re-reading the Mirror Universe books.  I just started on the Deep Space Nine story, which is the last of the bunch, but probably the most important since this new book is a DEEP SPACE NINE book.  And I really don't remember what happened, which is why I'm re-reading all these stories in the first place.  But I'm writing little summaries, so I don't have to do this every couple years that they come out with a new book.

So, what am I doing on the internet??  I should be READING.

Star Trek: the Experience's Future
IMPORTANT -- if you are a Star Trek fan, PLEASE READ!!!

There is talk of Star Trek: the Experience in Las Vegas closing down at the end of the year.  Apparently there was supposed to be a decision made at the end of May, but there's been no word.  There is an explanation of what is going on, and contact info at the link I'll provide.  PLEASE, if you're a fan at all, send an email to the Las Vegas Hilton telling them how stupid it would be for them to close it (except you know, in nicer wording than that, obviously), especially with a new movie coming out next year, and the official Star Trek conventions being held there every year.  Without the Experience, I'm sure the cons will be held somewhere else, probably Burbank or something.

So, even if you've never been to Star Trek: the Experience, or don't plan to go, because of distance or something, at least send an email.  Having Star Trek stuff around is a good thing.  It would be such a shame if this place closed down.

Please go to this link and scroll down a bit for contact info.

Oh, and this is pretty cool:  I got an email back from Chad Boutte, Operations Manager/Director of Marketing at The Experience:

Captaintish

Thank you for your kind words and support of our wonderful attraction. I will be able to answer your questions regarding our future closer to the end of June. I will also be sharing your e-mail with my staff, and to my superiors involved in the decision process. We hope to see you in the near future.

Star Trek: Mirror Universe
So that  I don't have to reread these Mirror Universe books yet again next time they decide to come out with something new that requires knowledge of it, I'm going to put down little summaries here so that I can just read those instead, much like I did last year with the DS9 novel, Warpath.

There are two Mirror Universe books, and they consist of three stories each.  About half-way through I got a bit bored, and so I wrote the Voyager summary in script style.

Okay, FINE

-- I'll reread the Mirror Universe books.

Yesterday I was out to get groceries, so I picked up the first Mirror Universe book.  So, that's what I'm going to do.  Of course, THEN, before I could start reading it, I had to go on TWOP, and read the recap of the Enterprise Mirror Universe episodes.  *sigh*  So much work, just to get ready for a new book.  I wish they wouldn't let so much time go by between books.  Like, how long as it been since the last New Frontier book?  Let me check....  FEBRUARY 2006!!!  That's insane.  When is the next one coming out?  I heard the next one was going to be a graphic novel.  Whatever.  As long as its written by Peter David

I have no voice today.  I CANNOT talk.  Which is maybe why I've been online for about the last hour.  I can ramble on and on here.  No voice required.  :)

Deep Space Nine books

The new Deep Space Nine book is coming out in just a few weeks.  Of course, that's what I thought LAST year, and then I ended up having to wait another year.

My dilemma -- I found out that Fearful Symmetry not only continues the story of the DS9 books, but also the Mirror Universe books.  And I don't really remember what happened in the Mirror Universe books.  So, I'm trying to decide if I should reread both of them, or just the second one, or what.  *sigh*  I have the second one, but to get the first one, I'd have to go out to the book store, and I don't want to do that right now because I have a cold.  :(

Maybe I'll wait and go get the first one when I'm feeling better.  In the meantime, there's always that Terok Nor trilogy............

It's all about the Coffee
So, I was just re-watching BSG Season 2 Episode 4 "Resistance" and I noticed something.

All the ships are refusing to resupply Galactica.  Tigh is getting a report that the various ships in the fleet are holding back this and that and everything, and when they get to coffee, that seems to be the last straw.  "Coffee?  This is getting out of control!!!!"

Coffee is what leads Tigh to order armed troops over to the civilian ships.  In fact, it is when the civilians start throwing COFFEE at the soldiers that they open fire, thus leading to the "Gideon Massacre."

All this happens in the same show that just so happens to have a main character called STARBUCK??  Coincidence? -- I think not.  :)

BSG Season 3 Finale
Hey, Gidget and Alias!!!!!!

I am now desperate to watch season 4.  WHERE ARE THE RERUNS????  WHY DOES SCIFI.COM ONLY STREAM THE LAST THREE EPISODES????  I DON'T WANT TO DOWNLOAD.  IT'S NOT ON ITUNES.  AMAZON UNBOX SOUNDS REALLY BAD.  WHAT DO I DO?

Awesome episode.  Can't wait to watch Season 4.  I'm pissed because SciFi.com only has episodes 7, 8 and 9 streaming on their website.  So, how am I supposed to watch the first six episodes?  I really don't want to download them.  When is Sci Fi going to start showing reruns from the beginning of season 4??????????????

Beauty and the Geek

Beauty and the Geek has been cancelled.  :(

Granted, this latest season wasn't all that great.  The twist at the beginning where it was "Beauties VS. Geeks" was completely antithetical to the concept of the show.  Whatever.  At least they fixed it after a few episodes, and paired up the beauties and the geeks, like they were supposed to.  But frankly, I think this season, the characters were just not as likable as in previous seasons.  Like, last season, I LOVED Dave and Jasmine.  Right now, the CW appears to be re-running that season, I don't know why, since the show is cancelled, but whatever.  I might watch it, because it's such a great season, with the most interesting contestants.  I liked the twist of having a team of a girl geek and boy beauty.  But Dave and Jasmine were the best.  Plus, there's that episode where they all go to Comic Con.  *squeee*

ETA:  I just realized how much I used the word "season" in this post.  But I don't feel like fixing it.
